SCHEDULING AN INTRODUCTORY CALL

Let's start with a conversation

Thirty minutes, phone or Zoom, with someone on our team. No pressure, no preparation needed. We'll learn a little about your situation, answer your questions, and figure out together whether we are the right firm for you.

What This Call Is

This is your first conversation with our team. It is not a consultation with an attorney, and it is not a sales call. It is a short, friendly call with one of the people who would actually become part of your team if we work together.

We will ask you a few questions about what is on your mind. You can ask us anything you want. By the end, we will both have a clear sense of the next steps.  Please read the information and FAQs below before scheduling.

A Quick Word, Before You Book

We do our best work with people who:

  • Want their planning done thoughtfully
  • See planning as an ongoing relationship, not a one-time transaction
  • Are looking for a team that will know them, their team, and their plan over time
  • Have decided this is something they want to do

If that sounds like you, this call is going to feel easy. We have been waiting for you.

What We Don’t Handle

So you know before we get on the phone, here is what we are not the right firm for.

  • Help after a loved one (who wasn’t our prior client) has passed away (probate, settling an estate, administering a trust)
  • ALTCS or Medicaid long-term care benefits planning for an aging parent or adult
  • A family dispute over a will, trust, or inheritance. Frankly, any contests or disputes
  • Business or business succession planning
  • Real estate transfers, deed work, prenups, divorce, or other family law

Before the Call

Almost nothing is required. But if you want the call to feel useful from the first minute, three small things help:

  1. Have a sense of what is on your mind. Even a sentence is enough. “We have been putting this off.” “Our daughter just turned 18 and we are not sure what to do.” “We had a plan from years ago and we do not know if it still works.”
  2. Know who else might be involved. A spouse, an adult child, a financial advisor, a CPA. You do not need them on the call. We just want to know who is in the picture.
  3. Bring your questions. Anything you want to know about us, how we work, what things cost, what comes next. We will answer all of them.

That is it. No documents, no forms, no homework.

What Happens Next

If we are a fit, we’ll get you set up to start working with us. We’ll schedule your first meeting with the attorney on your team, send over the engagement paperwork, and begin the planning work itself. No surprises.

If we are not a fit, we will tell you on the call, and we will send you the names of two or three Arizona attorneys we trust who handle the kind of work you need. We would rather you land in the right hands than in ours.

Either way, you will know what to do next.

Questions We Hear Before the First Call

Is this call free?

Yes. The introductory call is free, and there is no obligation after it. We use the call to learn about your situation and answer your questions.

Who am I actually talking to?

A member of our client care team. They are not the attorney, but they are the person who would coordinate your work with us if you become a client. They have worked with us for years and have heard every kind of question you can think of, and they are the right person to help you figure out whether we are the right team for you.

Will an attorney be on the call?

Not on the introductory call. The attorneys on our team focus their time on the clients they are already working with. If we decide together that the next step makes sense, we'll talk through who on our team is the right fit for your situation, and you will meet them there. Every client has a team here, not just one attorney, and we will make sure yours is the right one from the start.

How long does it take?

Thirty minutes is the longest. Most calls are closer to twenty. Your time is important and we will not keep you longer than we need to!

Phone or Zoom, which is better?

Whichever feels easier for you. Some people prefer Zoom because they can see who they are talking to. Some people prefer the phone because they can focus better. Both work fine.

Do I need to prepare anything?

No. You do not need documents, you do not need to know what you want yet, and you do not need to have read anything ahead of time. If you have a sense of what is on your mind, that is plenty.

What if I do not know what I need?

That is one of the most common reasons people book this call. Many of our best clients started with “we have been thinking about this for a while, and we do not know where to begin.” That is exactly what we are here for.

What if I already have an estate plan?

Bring it up on the call. We will ask roughly when it was put together and what has changed in your life since.

Roughly what does this cost if I become a client?

We are happy to talk through pricing on the introductory call so there are no surprises.

What if my situation is not something you handle?

We will tell you on the call, and we will give you the names of two or three Arizona attorneys we trust who handle exactly the kind of work you need. You will not leave the call empty-handed.

What is the next step if we are a fit?

By the end of the introductory call, we'll have a clear sense of what you need, and the next step is getting started. That usually means meeting the attorney on your team, getting your engagement set up, and beginning the planning work together. The work itself takes a few months from start to finish, depending on complexity, and you'll have our team alongside you the whole way.

What if I am ready to hire you today?

Wonderful! Though, the introductory call is still the right starting point, even if you are sure. It lets us confirm that what you need is something we can do, and it lets you confirm that we are the right team for it.

I am calling about a parent or family member, not myself. Is that okay?

Yes. Many of our clients are adult children planning for or with a parent, or parents planning for an adult child with a disability. On the call, just tell us who the planning is for and who is making decisions, and we will go from there.

What if I have a deadline coming up?

Tell us when you book. The call will still be 30 minutes, but we will know to talk about timeline first. We can usually accommodate reasonable deadlines. We are upfront if we cannot.

How soon can I get on the calendar?

Most introductory calls happen within a week of booking. If your situation is genuinely time-sensitive, mention it in the booking notes and we will do our best to find you something sooner.
